Property Description

Could this be an opportunity to get a jump start in the ski industry running two lovely chalets that between them sleep over 20 clients? Or perhaps they could be run as self catered or fully hosted chalets, or you could use one for yourself and let the other – there are lots of possibilities to consider, including running a summer business as well or perhaps you just want to buy two chalets next to each other?

Let’s talk about the chalets first;

Both chalets have been decorated with a traditional feel and, essentially, in a way that suits running a chalet business which is what they are currently used for. They both have comfortable lounges and dining areas with open fire places and great views. The kitchens are well equipped and there is private parking and a garage with storage. The outsides have been nicely finished in wood and stone and they have been well maintained.

Chalet 1 is approx 170 square metres in total with accommodation for thirteen (but can be increased to fifteen) in five bedrooms with four of them en-suite. On the top floor is a large family room with double bed (another single bed can be added if required) with en-suite shower and its own balcony. The middle floor has a triple room with en-suite shower and its own balcony, plus an additional shower and toilet, finally on the ground floor there are two twin bedded rooms with en-suite baths (an extra bed can be added to one of these rooms if required), and a bunk bedroom.

Chalet 2 is approx 130 square metres with accommodation for twelve persons (but can be increased to fourteen persons) in five en-suite bedrooms and consists of a large family room with one double bed and two single beds with en-suite shower and its own balcony, there is room for two more single beds in this room if required, on the top floor. Then on the middle floor there is a double bed with en-suite bathroom and double doors onto the main balcony. The ground floor has two twin bedrooms with en-suite showers and double doors onto pathway, plus a bunk bedroom with en-suite shower.

Most importantly when running a successful ski business or buying your ski home is the ski area and the Three Valleys is second to none. The chalets are located in a quaint and very popular village just outside St Martin de Belleville where an 8 man gondola whisks you up the mountain, an easy walk in normal shoes. The village can be skied into via incredible powder fields, and a short car drive or free shuttle bus gets you to the lifts to start the day. From there you’ve got 600kms of marked piste to explore plus the endless off-piste potential. In the Belleville valley alone there is a wonderful range of skiing for all levels of ability and St Martin’s ski area is equally suited to both adventurer and beginner alike.

St Martin de Belleville itself is a pretty, traditional mountain village that has developed into a successful ski resort without any of the ugly buildings or overpricing in many of the other linking stations. It has a very relaxed feel, unlike its busier neighbours of Meribel and Courchevel. 6kms further up the mountain is Les Menuires, with Val Thorens, the highest ski resort in Europe, at the top of the Belleville valley.

Saint Martin de Belleville

Resort Description

Based at 1400m and directly linked into the vast Three Valleys network by an 8 person gondola, St Martin de Belleville offers unlimited, world-class skiing. The village is picture perfect, unspoiled and authentic making St Martin de Belleville the perfect ski resort if you are looking for a taste of authentic France combined with state of the art skiing. Clusters of traditional chalets and original Savoyard farmhouses are dominated by the close mountains with chamois and wild boars roaming free in the surrounding forests. St Martin was voted a “Top Ten Picture Postcard resort” for its pretty, traditional architecture and stunning Alpine scenery, it’s interesting to note that the commune have had the foresight to bury all the electric and phone cabling which means that not only does it have a clean uncluttered look, but you are unlikely to lose power when the snow hits! As an added bonus Val Thorens, officially the highest resort in Europe is situated at the top of the valley offering great skiing from mid-November to mid-May. St Martin also has some of the best and clearest runs in the Three Valleys; with skiing for all levels back down to the village and red run Jerusalem a firm favourite with many, and the confidence inspiring off-piste powder fields have to be experienced to be believed. In the height of summer during July and August the valley is host to walkers, nature lovers and adventure seekers who arrive to enjoy the traditional and less traditional mountain activities along with the colourful mountain meadows and beauty of the contrasting vibrant green against snow capped mountains. It is also a near neighbour to the Vanoise Park, a protected area of outstanding natural beauty. St Martin de Belleville has a lower key nightlife than its glitzy neighbours. Having said that, the valley boasts two Michelin starred restaurants, one being situated three minutes from the village, the other in Val Thorens. St Martin itself has several friendly bars and restaurants which retain a mountain village atmosphere with prices to match. It seems ideal for ski and mountain lovers looking for an authentic atmosphere a little apart from the crowds, and out of season it still has life and enough year round residents to stop it feeling like a ghost town.
