    • Property Description

Located in a sunny spot in a popular and extremely pretty village, this is a very pretty 2 bedroom mountain house with a lovely cottage feel, located in a sunny spot near a stream. The owners have finished their home to a high standard with a light wood interior and a wood and plaster exterior. A huge bonus is the newly installed geothermic central heating which will provide savings on fuel bills and is an big environmental plus point.

Laid out over three floors you enter at the garden level, either through the garage or the front door into a small hall. Off the hall is a laundry and wine store, there is also space for a small sauna on this floor should you want one.

Moving up via the interior stairs; the first floor opens out onto a spacious living area. This is a sunny room with large balcony doors providing lots of light and open onto wonderful views of the mountains. The lounge area has a wood burning stove giving a cosy ambience and a warm focus for the room. There is space for a large dining table next to the kitchen area which is fully fitted with an oven and hob, dishwasher, fridge and sink. This floor, and the garden floor, is tiled throughout.

Moving up to the top floor you arrive at an open space ideal for an office or TV area, but which could also be closed to make a small child’s bedroom. In addition there are two large bedrooms and a shower room with high powered shower. This floor has wooden floors and sloping beamed ceilings, all finished in wood, giving the bedrooms a cosy, mountain feel whilst remaining spacious and light. Each bedroom has a TV and telephone point and the office area also has a telephone point. The front bedroom enjoys the mountain views and there is also a velux above the bureau and another in the bathroom allowing plenty of light into the house.

The interior of the building is well finished and the detailing is looking good throughout. Double glazing and good insulation are important in the mountains and this house provides for this.

There is a small garden with a little terrace and the house is tucked away at the edge of the village with a rushing mountain stream adjacent to the property, further down the village the stream opens out into a pretty river with an old roman bridge that you cross to access the enormous amount of walking available direct from your door.

The village is extremely pretty with a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. For the skiers the lifts are just a few minutes’ drive away and there is the possibility for the more adventurous amongst you to ski off-piste back to the village (almost to the house in good snow) via Le Vallée des Encombres. There is also a free ski bus which stops nearby with is a great advantage. The ski lifts at St Martin de Belleville, the nearest ski resort, link in to the vast Three Valleys ski area, one of the largest in Europe, with over 600kms of piste and a state of the art lift system. The mountains provide a wonderful backdrop both winter and summer and this area is renowned for its local produce including Beaufort cheese and many local wines.

All in all a really great ski location, offering a quieter way of life in a very beautiful environment but still with easy access to the largest ski area in Europe. For all ski properties for sale in the Three Valleys ski area simply click on the area name in the search.

SAINT MARTIN DE BELLEVILLE

Resort Description

Based at 1400m and directly linked into the vast Three Valleys network by an 8 person gondola, St Martin de Belleville offers unlimited, world-class skiing. The village is picture perfect, unspoiled and authentic making St Martin de Belleville the perfect ski resort if you are looking for a taste of authentic France combined with state of the art skiing.

Clusters of traditional chalets and original Savoyard farmhouses are dominated by the close mountains with chamois and wild boars roaming free in the surrounding forests. St Martin was voted a “Top Ten Picture Postcard resort” for its pretty, traditional architecture and stunning Alpine scenery, it’s interesting to note that the commune have had the foresight to bury all the electric and phone cabling which means that not only does it have a clean uncluttered look, but you are unlikely to lose power when the snow hits!

As an added bonus Val Thorens, officially the highest resort in Europe is situated at the top of the valley offering great skiing from mid-November to mid-May. St Martin also has some of the best and clearest runs in the Three Valleys; with skiing for all levels back down to the village and red run Jerusalem a firm favourite with many, and the confidence inspiring off-piste powder fields have to be experienced to be believed.

In the height of summer during July and August the valley is host to walkers, nature lovers and adventure seekers who arrive to enjoy the traditional and less traditional mountain activities along with the colourful mountain meadows and beauty of the contrasting vibrant green against snow capped mountains. It is also a near neighbour to the Vanoise Park, a protected area of outstanding natural beauty.

St Martin de Belleville has a lower key nightlife than its glitzy neighbours. Having said that, the valley boasts two Michelin starred restaurants, one being situated three minutes from the village, the other in Val Thorens. St Martin itself has several friendly bars and restaurants which retain a mountain village atmosphere with prices to match. It seems ideal for ski and mountain lovers looking for an authentic atmosphere a little apart from the crowds, and out of season it still has life and enough year round residents to stop it feeling like a ghost town.
