Property Description

A charming 3 bedroom town house in Brides les Bains which is a small, lively town situated at the foot of the Courchevel and Meribel ski Valleys. The ski gondola, Olympe 1, 2 &3 that runs up the Meribel Valley, starts in Brides and takes you up into the Three Valley ski area with over 600kms of piste to choose from, and you can walk to the lift from the house – takes about 6 to 10 minutes depending on fitness. It’s a nice walk through the parkland and past the huge thermal spa building and casinao complex. It is possible to ski back to Brides, but only in exceptional snow conditions, so you can either jump on the bubble in Meribel centre or glide off-piste down to Les Allues or Le Raffort and then hop on the bubble for the rest of the journey down. In fact the house is situated in the grounds of the park close to the thermal spa and near the glacial river, so it’s a quiet location yet near to all amenities. Perfect! Within walking distance of the house you have shops – including a boulangerie, bars and restaurants, a cinema, swimming pool, tennis courts and even a casino, and talking of walking ..... this is one of the best walking bases, from here you can take strolls through the vine yards or up the anti and head up into the heights and explore the mountains that offer amazing views and a variety of wildlife, flora and fauna to satisfy the most ardent of nature lovers. Of course in a location like this there are all types of activities on offer from white water rafting to exercise programmes and diet plans through to painting classes and parapenting - the sky’s the limit. Cycling is also very popular with the Tour de France passing somewhere through the area each year and some of France’s best mountain bikers coming from this area as well. The house is situated over three floors, on the lower ground floor is a work shop, cave, work room, storage. You then move up to the ground floor with separate kitchen, large enough for a good sized table and large windows, a open plan dining and lounge area which also has a reading area and opens out on to a large and private terrace from which you have views over towards the distant hills and across the park, also large enough for outside dining and a lovely convivial place to entertain. There is also a bathroom and WC on this floor. Upstairs are three good sized bedrooms, a small office and a good sized family bathroom. It is all in good condition and well presented. The house stands in its own land and offers a garden with a shed for your mower and tools, and there are plenty of shady places to relax and enjoy the bird song as well as sunny sunbathing spots. Brides-les-Bains is a town of many faces; being a historic spa town it has a very traditional French feel which is off-set by the crowds of skiers and snowboarders that arrive each winter bringing life to the community during the winter. Up the road from Brides-les-Bains are the two world famous ski resorts of Courchevel and Meribel which can be accessed direct by the lift in the town. In the summer the pistes of Meribel and Courchevel become world class golf courses – giving you two golfing options to choose from. For the pilots amongst you, you could fly in to Chambery or Courchevel once you have your mountain rating. If you don’t have your own plane handy then don’t worry, travelling here is easy, the TGV stop is 10mins away, and the nearest airport of Chambery is around 1hr20 away with Geneva airport taking about 2hrs15. The roads are good all the way from the UK. I think this is a great buy, it offers a real slice of France where you can be peaceful and part of the beautiful nature around you or you can partake of all the high octane activities you could wish for –something for everyone.

Brides-Les-Bains, Meribel

Resort Description

Brides les Bains is a quiet spa town in the pretty valley below Méribel, and is connected to the ski area of the Three Valleys by gondola. The gondola up to Mèribel takes a while and accesses a couple of villages, les Allues and le Raffort, part way up which allows for some decent off-piste runs when conditions permit. It is possible to ski all the way down to Brides when the snow is exceptional but regrettably that is rare, so most people hop back on the gondola either in Meribel or enjoy the off-piste runs down to either of the two villages and then continue by lift from there. Before it became a ski base it was, and still is, a thermal spa town and as such has much to offer. As well as the spa centre, there are several good value hotels and chalets, shops, restaurants, a casino and a couple of bars – although evenings are generally quiet because it only has a few bars to choses form it does mean that you all end up getting know each other quite quickly so in fact has quite a social feel. Indeed it has a big following of snow lovers who value a cheaper resort, a proper town feel and easy access as the snow rarely blocks the roads at this height. I like Brides-les-Bains, it quirky, different and very French and makes an unusual and interesting ski base from which you can enjoy the enormous state of the art ski area of the Three Valleys at a much better price. It is also a great summer location for all mountain enthusiasts and offers a lot of different activities during the winter as well. Because of this it can make a slightly more interesting base for non-skiers who can make use of the thermal spa treatments which can be booked as week courses or as individual treatments – relax and enjoy!
