Property Description

A gorgeous, bright, modern and spacious chalet style house offering open plan easy living in a quiet spot in Bourg Saint Maurice, just a couple of minutes drive to the Arc en Ciel funicular that will give you access to the massive Paradiski within 7 minutes!  The skiing is immense and the 425kms of pisted runs link all the way from Villaroger across to Champagny en Vanoise taking in many renowned ski resorts on the way, such as the new, pretty Les Arcs 1950, the family resorts of La Plagne and the high altitude Aime Plagne at 2,100m2.

The area is linked by fast and efficient lift system and has areas to suit all levels of skier or boarders.  There are also many other activities to choose from during the winter months, you could try your hand at speed kiting (skiing underneath a huge wing kite!), ski joring with horses, ski-dooing or even have a go on the Olympic bob sleigh run at La Plagne.  You might want to take advantage of the local amenities on your doorstep in the busy market town Bourg St Maurice.  There is a market every Saturday morning which offers local produce, clothing, souvenirs and objets d'art.  The town centre has a great array of shops, restaurants and bars and also all the facilities you will need for every day life such as banks and the post office.  There is a large commercial centre with a choice of supermarkets, DIY stores, sports wear stores and garages.

The house sits on a large completely enclosed terrain of over 1,000m2 with the rear aspect giving views up the mountainside.  The surrounding gardens are well developed and create a really private plot for the property.  The gated entrance and huge private drive means you will always have safe, secure parking.  The chalet has 4 bedrooms which share a large family bathroom with a walk in shower and bathtub, handbasin and WC.  The master bedroom is a large double and wardrobes built in to the eaves, which is a great use of the space.  This bedroom is at half level just up a few steps from the living area and if you carry on up the full flight of stairs you come to the landing area with three double bedrooms set off it and the family bathroom.  One of the bedrooms has its own, large sunny balcony and another has mezzanine area so is a brilliant children's room with plenty of space for friends to sleep over!  The final double is also very spacious.

The ground floor is open plan with the kitchen opening out on to the dining area and living room.  There are two sets of double terrace doors and there are large windows throughout making this modern house extremely bright and airy.  There are plenty of storage cupboards and a separate WC in the entrance hallway.  There is a very large garage which has plenty of space for sports equipment such as your skis, snow boards and toboggans.

At the rear of the property the gardens are laid out to lawn and with a wooden terrace area which looks across the lovely swimming pool.  There is a technical store which houses the swimming pool pump and fuel tank for the oil fired central heating.  There is also another large storage room which is set over two floors.

I think this is a really lovely house and is suitable for year round living.  It offers good accommodation and the large gardens and drive area give the property a feeling of space and privacy.  It is located in a quiet spot close to the funicular and also good access to the rest of the ski areas in the region such as Val d'Isere, Ste Foy and La Rosiere.

Bourg Saint Maurice has its own train station where you can link to Chambery, Lyon and further! The Eurostar has services from London and Paris during the winter season. Geneva, Grenoble and Lyon are just under 2 hours transfer by car.

Bourg St Maurice

Resort Description

Bourg Saint Maurice is a bustling market town and the hub that serves most of the Tarentaise. The Eurostar finishes its journey from the UK here, and skiers head off to the local ski resorts which include Val d’Isere, Tignes, Les Arcs, La Rosiere and Sainte Foy de Tarentaise, quite a line-up of world class resorts!. None more than 30minute away. Although there is no skiing at this altitude, Bourg Saint Maurice is conveniently linked to Les Arcs 1600 by the Arc en Ciel (Rainbow) funicular railway. Les Arcs is part of the Paradiski domain, with 425km of slopes.144lifts and 239pistes which lives up to its name as a skier’s paradise. Unlike the other villages that make up les Arcs the town of Bourg Saint Maurice is open all year. The heart of Bourg Saint Maurice is its pedestrian high street. Jam packed with intriguing shops and boutiques it’s a great place to while away an afternoon, particularly suitable if you are a non skier. The town’s many bars and restaurants cater for all tastes from cosy local savoyarde to cool brasserie. Nothing can beat sipping a hot chocolaté or vin chaud in the warm, watching the snowy scene unfold outside…..heaven. Although by no means a large town Bourg Saint Maurice offers all the facilities you would expect and possibly much more. There is a cinema, which obligingly shows the occasional English language film. The indoor/outdoor swimming pool is a hit all year round, particularly in the summer when the soaring temperatures prove too much for local residents. In the winter the local marie even built an open air ice rink in the town centre, which the children loved. On a more practical note Bourg Saint Maurice has a number of large supermarkets, an all year round campsite and excellent schools for all ages. The weekly market on Saturday mornings draws in quite a crowd, the streets are closed and you can buy anything form a tea towel to a chicken! Not only does the town have a large all year round population but it also plays host to many tourists. The local mairie is very proactive, organising many events, throughout the year including hosting a stage of the Tour de France in July 2009. The summer offers lots of opportunities for lovers of the outdoors. There is a white water slalom course on the Isere river used for international canoe and kayak competitions; it’s also used by many European teams as a training course in the summer. The surrounding mountains are good for walking and mountain biking. The funicular and some of les Arcs ski lifts operate during July and August to get the walkers to the higher peaks, you can even take your mountain bile on the chairlift. Horse riding is another popular activity, as is quad biking. If that’s not enough and you have a spare moment you could always try a spot of summer glacier skiing in nearby Tignes. Phew! Bourg Saint Maurice is an action packed town.
