This is a superb house in a very peaceful hamlet about 10 minutes drive from Landry near Bourg St Maurice. Although a quiet spot it is only a 15 minute drive to Peisey-Vallandry, for access to Les Arcs, or Montchavin-Les Coches, for access to La Plagne. Bourg St Maurice is a similar drive away with funicular access to Arc 1600.
With 4 bedrooms, a sauna, open fireplace, top floor terrace/solarium, lots of beams , lovely woodwork ,big balcony and a garden it offers accommodation that is full of character and, with approx. 200 sq. m of habitable space, plenty of room. The top floor lounge, dining area and kitchen is absolutely great, particularly the kitchen with an additional mezzanine space..
Although in a quiet hamlet the current owners have stressed that the road is cleared everyday in winter, as it is vital that locals can get to work.
The accommodation is on three levels. Entering the house from the front there is an entrance hallway with plenty of storage space. Next up is a lovely bathroom with shower, twin sinks and sauna as well as a separate WC. Great use has been made of local wood to give a real character feel There are two bedrooms on this level one of which has a balcony.
Moving downstairs there are a further two bedrooms, one a double and one a family room currently with two double beds and a single bed. There is a further bathroom and WC. This floor has its own door to the outside so it could be separated off to form an apartment or provide bed and breakfast/chambre d’hote accommodation.
The top floor is a great living space with cosy lounge area with open fireplace and big, double-glazed windows opening on to the balcony with views to the other side of the valley. There is a good sized dining space leading through into an amazing dining kitchen which has a mezzanine floor for an extra sitting space or study/office space. This kitchen is all beams and hanging pots with room for a kitchen table and a sofa as well as a Godin wood-burning stove. For convenience there is also a gas cooker.
Off the dining area there is a roof terrace/solarium—just a great living space..
To the back of the house there is a good-sized garden mostly laid to lawn.
In a nutshell, character, character, character.
Less than 10 minutes away by car is the village of Landry with its all year round community feel Landry has a couple of hotel/bars, a general shop, post office, local school, a campsite and its own railway station.
The tree lined slopes above Peisey Vallandry and Montchavin-Les Coches offer some lovely skiing, particularly in bad weather. Access to the higher slopes is by fast chairlifts. In total the Les Arcs, La Plagne, Paradiski ski area offers some 425 km of slopes; one of the world’s great ski areas..
Other resorts such as La Rosiere, Sainte Foy and Val d’Isère/Tignes are all less than an hour away by car.
NB; the owners tell me that it is possible to ski, off piste, virtually back to the house.

Les Arcs has always been popular with the French and increasingly British clients are enjoying its wide variety of pistes (some 200km.), easily accessed off-piste, mainly traffic free villages and, of course, the amazing Vanoise express cable car link to La Plagne; together the two resorts are known as PARADISKI and offer some 425km. of piste. Les Arcs is made up of four modern resort villages at high altitude with more traditional villages lower down Arc 1600 was the original Arc and is linked to the valley town of Bourg St. Maurice by funicular railway. It is a small-scale village with a friendly, very French, atmosphere. The largest and liveliest village is Arc 1800 itself now subdivided into three sections, Charvet, Villards and Charmettoger. Arc 1800 offers fast access to the high altitude slopes including the Transarc gondola up to the Col du Chal from where you can ski down to Arc2000 and Arc 1950. Arc 2000 is a modern development that ,as the name suggests, is ideally located for some of Les Arcs’ highest and toughest skiing . Arc 1950 is the latest village to be developed. Canadian developers Intrawest have built this in a traditional style offering accommodation standards that are much higher than is usual in French resorts. It has proved a popular development and offers a good choice of accommodation, restaurants and bars and easy access to the slopes. Lower down the mountain there are more traditional villages, which provide a good base for mixed ability groups and families. Plan Peisey and Vallandry are right next-door to each other at an altitude of 1600m. They now find themselves at the heart of Paradiski as the Vanoise Express link to La Plagne operates out of Plan-Peisey. Upgrades to the lifts and installation of several new chairlifts have improved access to the higher altitude slopes. Villaroger (1200m) on the other side of the mountain is a quiet, rustic village with chairlift links up to Arc 2000.
