Property Description

Traditional renovated 5 bedroom Savoyard farmhouse for sale in Morzine in a peaceful location only 3km to the nearest ski lift in a wonderful traditional valley. Do you ever dream of waking up in paradise? Well with the view from your bedroom window, this wonderful old farmhouse, divided in to 2 separate apartments, could help you realise your dreams, my ‘coup de coeur’

Located in the Vallee da la Manche, my favourite valley in the area, we find this lovely renovated property. Only 3km from the nearest ski lift, a further 1.3 km in to Morzine town centre and with lovely walks, cross country skiing and a restaurant within walking distance, and served in winter by the free ski bus, what is there not to love? The current owners have been lucky to have lived in the property for over 30 years, carefully renovating first the ground floor apartment and more recently (2006) the old ‘grange’ which now occupies the first and second floors. Upon entering the ground floor farmhouse apartment, you will see that part of the original ‘ardoise’, slate floor still remains as a feature.

This apartment has been renovated in a traditional style. Here you will find a comfortable lounge, kitchen, office, 2 bedrooms, a bathroom and a separate WC. Completing the ground floor accommodation is the stable, now converted in to an independent bedroom comprising a double bed, folding wall bunk beds and a bathroom/wc. By removing the wall beds, it may be possible to create a small kitchenette area, thus making a further totally independent studio. Outside leading to the first floor is a lovely terrace with water trough feature. With a sunny aspect, you or your guests could enjoy leisurely lunches whilst sampling the local cheese and wine.

Upon reaching the first floor we enter the larger apartment renovated in a chalet style. With wood interior, a dual aspect glass enclosed fireplace, underfloor heating, a sunny balcony, rear dining terrace, as well as the open plan style kitchen, dining area and lounge there is plenty of space for your family or friends. A shower room and WC, store room and utility area complete this level.

On reaching the upper floor mezzanine level, we find two good sized bedrooms, a bathroom and separate WC. There is also a little den under the eaves, just big enough for a child to sneak in to with mattress and tv!

The property has its own source (well) which is used to compliment the town water supply. It is gas central heated, doubled glazed and boasts 2 cellars, one of which used to be an old cheese store and the other now housing the central heating boiler etc. Parking, a garage and a small vegetable patch and garden compliment this property in a dreamy location. With the possibility of renting out either of the properties independently, it is possible to start living in and earning from this place immediately.

Portes du Soleil Ski Area

600 km of skiing in 2 countries making the Portes du Soleil the biggest international ski area in the world.

Here skiing is a journey, with different panoramas and routes to look forward to every day, and each of our 12 village resorts offering a charm of their own.

The resorts are amongst the most well known, including Morzine, Avoriaz, Les Gets, Abondance, Chatel and St Jean DAulps to name but a few.

They also offer excellent opportunities for downhill mountain bikers outside the winter months.

As a popular holiday destination in both summer and winter, these resorts offer investment potential. So whether you are looking for a quiet and peaceful family resort (Chatel or St Jean D'Aulps for example) or something a little more lively (Morzine) the Portes du Soleil has it all.

Within easy distance of the International Airport at Geneva plus close to Lake Geneva, this ski area is the perfect destination.

Morzine Ski Resort

Situated mid-way between Mont Blanc and Lake Geneva, the ever popular resort of Morzine is absolutely stunning, well known for its Alpine scenery, nestled between forests and summits. Life is leisurely, and the village although vibrant and bustling has lost nothing of its original charm and Savoyard way of life. Ideally situated right in the middle of the Portes du Soleil, Morzine is the gateway to a marvellous winter playground of 650 km of ski-slopes where you can ski from French into Switzerland and back again all in one day.  When it comes to lunchtime you are spoilt for choice with all the mountain restaurants scattered everywhere.

In summer, these slopes become sign-posted footpaths for trekking and moutain biking. Originally life in Morzine was one of agriculture and slate-mines but with the opening of the ‘Grand Hotel’ (first tourist hotel built in the 1920’s) and its owner François Baud opened up a new opportunities for the village and it’s in habitants. Then in 1934 the Pleney cable car was opened and the thick covering of snow started some previously unknown sports: tobogganing, ski-jöring (towed behind a horse), the beginnings of downhill skiing and even ski-jumping!

If ski or snow boarding instruction is the order of the day there are avariety of French and English speaking Instructors in the ski schools.

There is a vast array of shops, bars and restaurants, offering plenty to non-skiers as well and for after ski fun.  This makes Morzine a good all year round resot for those who live here and those with Holiday homes.
