This is a spacious, divisible studio in the lovely village of Montchavin (1250m) at the heart of the La Plagne, Les Arcs, Paradiski ski area. Situated on the edge of the village, it is only 150m from the Les Coches bubble, Evolution2 ski school/ski shop and the village centre. In the right snow conditions it is possible to ski back to the apartment. The studio is situated on the first floor of a small residence and offers a divisible living/sleeping area, updated bathroom, separate WC, separate kitchen area a good-sized balcony and ski locker. There is a charming cobbled high street with a selection of shops, half a dozen good value restaurants, a couple of bars, a well stocked Spar supermarket and even a cinema and indoor/outdoor swimming pool complex. Both Evolution 2 and ESF ski schools operate in the village. The studio is only a couple of minutes walk at the most from all the village amenities. The living area can be separated into two sleeping areas and offers two double sofa beds and a set of good quality bunk beds; thus it is possible to sleep 6 people. The bathroom has been updated and retiled and has a bath, overhead shower and washbasin; there is a separate WC. The kitchen area is equipped with dishwasher, oven/microwave, and fridge. The owner has bought some good quality furniture and the studio will be sold furnished, equipped and ready to move into. A balcony offers a peaceful spot to sit and relax and has views of the forest. The studio is has a ski locker and there is external parking to the front of the residence. Heating is by electric convector heaters.
There are some lovely tree lined pistes just above Montchavin which offer sheltered skiing in bad weather. A series of fast chairlifts link the village with high altitude La Plagne. Alternatively, from the top of the Montchavin chairlift it only takes a couple of minutes to ski to the Vanoise Express cable car that links to Les Arcs; the joint Paradiski ski area offering an incredible 425 km of piste. This is one of the world’s great ski areas. Montchavin is a lovely village in summer with the balconies bedecked with flowers. Walking, cycling and mountain biking are just some of the activities on offer or,sunbathe at the outside pool
An easy 10 minute drive brings you down into the valley with the market town of Bourg St. Maurice only 15 minutes by car. Travel Information. Self-drive: it is a 10 hour drive from the main channel ports. By rail; the nearest train station is at Landry some 10 minutes away by car/taxi. In the ski season a direct Eurostar service runs to Bourg St Maurice. By air; the nearest airports are Chambery, Geneva, Grenoble and Lyon.
Paradiski Ski Area
Paradiski is the name of the joint La Plagne, Les Arcs, ski area linked together by the Vanoise Express cable car. Opened in December 2003,the Vanoise Express is currently the world’s largest single span cable car; in fact there are two of them both capable of ferrying 200 people across the Ponthurin valley that divides the two areas. The journey and the views make for a spectacular 4-minute ride.
In total Paradiski offers a HUGE 425 km of piste. Individually, La Plagne (225 km) and Les Arcs (200km) are significant ski areas in their own right and are both made up of different villages. In La Plagne the high altitude villages are Aime 2000,Plagne Centre, Belle Plagne, Plagne Bellecote, Plagne Soleil, Plagne Villages and Plagne 1800. These are all situated between 1800m and 2100m and offer snowsure high altitude ski in ski out convenience.
Lower down the delightful villages of Montchavin, Les Coches, Montalbert and Champagny en Vanoise all offer the charm and cosy comfort of village life, with their own tree lined local slopes and easy access to the high altitude slopes of La Plagne.
In Les Arcs the high altitude villages are Arcs 1600, Arcs 1800, Arcs 2000 and, the latest development, Arcs 1950. Again these all offer a ski in ski out experience. Great cruising runs through the trees lead to the lower villages of Plan Peisey, Vallandry and Villaroger for a more traditional mountain experience.
Both La Plagne and Les Arcs offer something for everyone. Early intermediate blue and red run skiers can soon explore the area and travel around the mountain enjoying some of the good value mountain restaurants.
However with two glaciers at over 3,000m, a wealth of “between the piste” and off piste and long runs through the trees, there really is something for all levels of skier---and let’s not forget you boarders out there—both resorts offer a choice of snowparks with jumps, rails and the ,all important, music. La Plagne, Les Arcs, Paradiski—one of the world’s great ski areas.
Montchavin - Les Coches Ski Resort
Montchavin (1250m) and Les Coches (1450m) are two charming, family orientated villages at the meeting point of the La Plagne, Les Arcs ski areas which together make up the amazing Paradiski ski domain.
In many ways they provide it all; peaceful village life, a bit of nightlife, excellent restaurants, traditional buildings and super efficient skiing facilities. Montchavin has a unique rustic charm; this is still a farming community with chickens and geese and farming smells!! There are some delightful old buildings whilst more modern additions have been built in a sympathetic style. The cobbled high street provides a variety of ski shops, a supermarket, a couple of bars, a lovely patisserie, an excellent 2 star hotel and even a cinema. There are half a dozen good value restaurants of which Le Ferme de Cesar remains a personal favourite.
Les Coches, situated a little further up the mountain, has been purpose built in chalet style out of wood and stone with pitched slate roofs. There is a lovely pedestrianised commercial heart to the village with a variety of shops, a supermarket, the excellent The Last One bar and a choice of good value restaurants.
Both villages easily connect to the La Plagne ski area and Les Arcs via the Vanoise Express gondola link. From Montchavin the Montchavin chairlift and Les Coches “bubble” are the two main lifts out of the village…it is a two minute ski from the top of the Montchavin chair to the Vanoise Express link to Les Arcs. From Les Coches the 6 man Plan Bois chairlift and the Lac Noir gondola are the main lifts.
There are a total of 30 km of skiing in the Montchavin-Les Coches local area: the picturesque tree lined runs are superb after a new fall of snow and provide excellent skiing in bad weather when many higher pistes are closed. Two lovely villages that we feel sure will appeal to those seeking charm as well as top class skiing.
Most of the accommodation for sale in the villages is apartments ranging from compact studios to 3 bedroom apartments; however, larger individual chalets are also available.
