Property Description

Hidden luxury. Tucked away in a charming mountain village is a simply gorgeous 5 bedroom ski chalet ideal for those who enjoy the finer things in life but want to experience real French village life.

This mountain house has been beautifully interior designed by a well-known, highly respected company who have embrace the spirit of the chalet and the village but with more than just a casual nod towards luxury and easy living.

The village has its own traditional bar and restaurant which also serves as a bread point and a place to collect the morning papers and have a coffee. Importantly it is only 10 minutes to the ski lifts at St Martin de Belleville where you can link in to the biggest (fact) and best (my opinion) ski area in the world – the 3 Valleys ski domain.

 The exterior of the property has been tidied up but also left to blend with the surrounding properties which includes a pretty little chapel and the community bread oven and so it is not outwardly ostentatious and the delights within are a wonderful surprise.   It is laid out over three floors;

TRAVEL

Drive, fly or train are all easy ways to arrive in the Alps. Driving from the UK is very easy, get the ferry over and then hop on the appropriate motorway which will eventually join to the N90 which runs to the bottom of the Belleville Valley at Moutiers from there follow signs for the Belleville Valley and follow the road up. At Moutiers there is also a TGV stop and the snow trains run over the winter which is a fast adn cost effective way to arrive. Lastly the airports; there are 3 international airports within about 2hrs of this property – Geneva, Grenoble and Lyon. Plus Chambery runs a service in the winter. Once you arrive and the various airports or stations you can catch coaches into resort or enjoy a private transfer to your door.

WINTER

When you’re this close to the largest ski area in the world, les Trois Vallées, you are spoilt for winter activities. The current owners have found that using the local guides makes life even more interesting and have had some big adventures from this base. One of their favourites is to start from St Martin de Belleville, ski and lift to the top of Val Thorens and then ski down off-piste to St Francois de Longchamp which then links back into the Valmorel ski area. From there you catch the lifts to the far end of the area and can ski off-piste back to the village or nearby ski conditions depending. Of course they are also happy to explore the three valleys which offers 600kms of on-piste skiing and boarding and probably the same again in off-piste possibilities. There are also sports such as ski de fond, racquet walking, husky sledging and any other snow sport you can think of. There is of course another side to the area and there are musical concerts and art exhibitions, museums, local tours and also swimming pools and fitness centres.

SUMMER

There are some amazing cities in the area which are equally enjoyable in the winter as well as the summer although most people tend to stick with the skiing in the winter. Chambery nearby is the capital of Savoie and has a very interesting past having been Italian and the seat of a monarchy until fairly recently becoming part of France. Now it is an attractive place to wander, shop and enjoy the restaurants and architecture. There is also Annecy which is situated on a canal and river system and is absolutely beautiful and charming and a popular shopping destination. The city is based on Lac d’Annecy, a truly stunning place of natural beauty that in spite of a thriving tourist industry manages to retain its serenity and is a place of calm. Also a wonderful place to enjoy all water activities from swimming to sailing. All the cities and indeed local villages and towns have fetes and events throughout the year which can be cultural, educational or just plain fun – from firework and rock concerts to classical music played from the walls of the castle or if you go to lac d’Annecy they float the orchestra out on the lac – now that is special.

Closer to home the tourist arrive in July and August for the walking and mountain biking, enjoying the peace and tranquillity of the mountains. There are large pockets of wilderness to enjoy which attract wildlife and are home to the most amazing alpine flowers and fauna.

This attractive ski chalet for sale offers an excellent balance between enjoying a slice of real France and the enjoyment of being able to hook into the largest ski area in the world – the Three Valleys. Saint Martin de Belleville

Resort Description

Based at 1400m and directly linked into the vast Three Valleys network by an 8 person gondola, St Martin de Belleville offers unlimited, world-class skiing. The village is picture perfect, unspoiled and authentic making St Martin de Belleville the perfect ski resort if you are looking for a taste of authentic France combined with state of the art skiing. Clusters of traditional chalets and original Savoyard farmhouses are dominated by the close mountains with chamois and wild boars roaming free in the surrounding forests. St Martin was voted a “Top Ten Picture Postcard resort” for its pretty, traditional architecture and stunning Alpine scenery, it’s interesting to note that the commune have had the foresight to bury all the electric and phone cabling which means that not only does it have a clean uncluttered look, but you are unlikely to lose power when the snow hits! As an added bonus Val Thorens, officially the highest resort in Europe is situated at the top of the valley offering great skiing from mid-November to mid-May. St Martin also has some of the best and clearest runs in the Three Valleys; with skiing for all levels back down to the village and red run Jerusalem a firm favourite with many, and the confidence inspiring off-piste powder fields have to be experienced to be believed. In the height of summer during July and August the valley is host to walkers, nature lovers and adventure seekers who arrive to enjoy the traditional and less traditional mountain activities along with the colourful mountain meadows and beauty of the contrasting vibrant green against snow capped mountains. It is also a near neighbour to the Vanoise Park, a protected area of outstanding natural beauty. St Martin de Belleville has a lower key nightlife than its glitzy neighbours. Having said that, the valley boasts two Michelin starred restaurants, one being situated three minutes from the village, the other in Val Thorens. St Martin itself has several friendly bars and restaurants which retain a mountain village atmosphere with prices to match. It seems ideal for ski and mountain lovers looking for an authentic atmosphere a little apart from the crowds, and out of season it still has life and enough year round residents to stop it feeling like a ghost town.
