Property Description

Located in one of the older quarters at the entrance of Morzine, Portes du Soleil, this beautiful home is just a short 15 minute walk from the centre and 5 minutes to the slopes by shuttle bus from the end of the drive. A great compromise between being close to it all without the hustle and bustle.

Set on 670m2 of land this farmhouse dating from 1788 has been carefully restored maintaining its original features using local and authentic materials, so has heaps of character. The downstairs entrance leads to the open plan kitchen/dining area, ample space for preparing and hosting large dinner parties. The kitchen is fully equipped with quality marble tops. This leads into a gorgeous living room featuring oak floors, a large stone chimney and has the original smoker from 1836 that adjoins the dining room, which is now served as a drinks cabinet. There is access to the garden from the living room. A hall ajoining both the living room and kitchen/dining area leads to a utility room, bathroom with wc, garage and stairs to the 2nd floor. The utility room is a good size and has outside access to the hot tub. Up to the 2nd floor, the stairs open to a large split level landing containing its original beams which have been intentionally left there as features after the renovation. Facing you, is an open room used as a snug area, then to the left, a landing with 2 bedrooms, a bathroom, separate wc and a storage cupboard. One of the bedrooms has a mezzanine, ideal as a family room for guests. To the right of the snug room is the upper level landing space with 4 bedrooms. 3 of the bedrooms have access to the outdoor balcony and sitting above is a convertable attic. The master bedroom has fitted wardrobes across one wall, plenty of room for all the dinner party outfits! It has a fantastic en-suite bathroom with a large walk-in shower with beautiful Italian tiles, an Indonesian teak unit and spa bath. All bedrooms are spacious and bright and are ample for double/twin beds. Outside, there is enough parking for 4-5 cars, a large garage, a lean to shed, hot tub, decked terrace and garden. The garden faces south/west so is great for lazy afternoons and evening barbeques and has a backdrop of the nearby national park. Its the perfect size for minimal maintenance and enough to roam around and enjoy.

The property is a great set up for a family home and with a few additions would make a top end of the market chalet business. For those wanting a future renovation project, there is still potential to do more. A fantastic and rare buy - must be seen in the flesh!

Resort Description

Situated mid-way between Mont Blanc and Lake Geneva, the ever popular resort of Morzine is absolutely stunning, well known for its Alpine scenery, nestled between forests and summits. Life is leisurely, and the village although vibrant and bustling has lost nothing of its original charm and Savoyard way of life. Ideally situated right in the middle of the Portes du Soleil, Morzine is the gateway to a marvellous winter playground of 650 km of ski-slopes where you can ski from French into Switzerland and back again all in one day.  When it comes to lunchtime you are spoilt for choice with all the mountain restaurants scattered everywhere.

In summer, these slopes become sign-posted footpaths for trekking and moutain biking. Originally life in Morzine was one of agriculture and slate-mines but with the opening of the ‘Grand Hotel’ (first tourist hotel built in the 1920’s) and its owner François Baud opened up a new opportunities for the village and it’s in habitants. Then in 1934 the Pleney cable car was opened and the thick covering of snow started some previously unknown sports: tobogganing, ski-jöring (towed behind a horse), the beginnings of downhill skiing and even ski-jumping!

If ski or snow boarding instruction is the order of the day there are avariety of French and English speaking Instructors in the ski schools.

There is a vast array of shops, bars and restaurants, offering plenty to non-skiers as well and for after ski fun.  This makes Morzine a good all year round resot for those who live here and those with Holiday homes.
